Welcome to Adriana Books
The first thing to be said is that much of the American
publishing industry is broken and I am now introducing my books to
the public on the web and offering them for sale here. Secondly,
these books are intensely gay books—by a gay author, about gay
people involved in gay issues and written for gay people—although
people who are not gay have read them and enjoyed them. I will be
coming back to these subjects regularly, particularly in my blog, as
I go along.
The books I am introducing are three novels about gay people in
gay predicaments in the last half of the twentieth century. Some
people have called them “historical novels,” but I don’t think
that’s right. The serious issues facing gay people haven’t much
changed since 1950—people still have to come out, and ours is still
a violent culture, so whatever hostility people have toward gay
people is often going to take the form of anti-gay violence, as all
three of these books demonstrate. This is also a subject I’ll be
coming back to later in my blog. It is also a subject that
characters in these novels address again and again. In gaining more
power, how much do gay people want to become like straight people,
or how much do we want straight people to become like us? And what
is “like us?”
So,
click
and let’s get on with it.
